Changing the term 'Friends' to 'Related person'

This update is relevant for Clients

As Minddistrict, we want to rename 'Friend' to 'Related person', so that the platform terminology reflects the care relationships in everyday life better.
The support network of a client can be a friend as well as a family member, neighbour, coach of any other person who supports the client.

Technical update

Introduction of our new Identity Provider (IDP)

We are taking a significant step towards renewing our authentication architecture: the introduction of an Identity Provider (IDP). In time, this IDP will replace our current authentication solution.

What is an IDP?

An IDP is a central service that verifies identities and grants secure access tokens to applications. It supports multiple standards such as SAML, OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0. This ensures that existing integrations continue to work whilst allowing us to modernise at the same time.

In the healthcare sector, it is essential to be able to verify who is requesting access and to ensure that identities are confirmed in a secure and controllable manner. The security of (medical) data is already safeguarded at a high level at Minddistrict. By implementing an IDP, we further strengthen this and enhance the verifiability of identities and the protection of data.

Why an IDP?

With an IDP, we standardise authentication and make it future-proof. We reduce complexity in our systems and improve the reliability of the login process.

Ready for future developments

This transition helps us prepare for future developments such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS), in which modern standards such as OpenID Connect are becoming increasingly important.

More integration opportunities

The IDP enables new integrations in the future, such as via OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0, for example with solutions like DigiD.

The IDP also acts as a secure connection between organisations and systems (such as healthcare platforms or network partners). By using standardised protocols, identity can be shared between systems in a secure and controlled manner, with no need for customisation for each connection. This simplifies integrations and makes collaboration more scalable.

Phased roll-out and where we are now

We are implementing the IDP step by step. In the first phase, Minddistrict will only use this new authentication process internally. So, for now, you, our customers, won’t notice any difference. Healthcare professionals and clients will follow later. We will share the details as soon as the schedule is set.

Our basic principle: to minimise changes in day-to-day use, whilst ensuring an improvement in safety and future-proofing.
